Gathering Leaves

Tonight I was watching "Beach Party" (American International – 1963) in which Annette Funicello sang "Treat Him Nicely". I thought this song sounded familiar and I then I recalled this song sounded very much like a song by The Duprees, "Have You Heard", which was recorded the same year. Two different songs recorded in the same year that have the same melody – wonder what the story is. Listen and judge for yourself….

There two clips here: one of Al Jolson doing a demo for his 1946 bio-pic "The Al Jolson Story" and the second is Larry Parks who played Al Jolson in the movie doing the same song. Parks received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and the film became one of the highest-grossing films of 1946.

If I had a hammer, I’d crack some folks over the head, but yeah, I know, we need our eyes on the prize. Whatever!

Yet another hit by the Hollies. Perhaps their greatest. A love song – I know because I lived it and it was great!
