There two clips here: one of Al Jolson doing a demo for his 1946 bio-pic "The Al Jolson Story" and the second is Larry Parks who played Al Jolson in the movie doing the same song. Parks received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and the film became one of the highest-grossing films of 1946.

People have accused me of living in the past when it comes to my musical tastes, but for me it is all about the song/singer and songs are timeless. Here is one of my favorites from the recent past. Avril Lavigne is so “je ne sais quoi”… phresh… Canadienne. Yeah, I’m a fan.
