February 6th, 2011

Sometimes when you import data into TMG you may wind up with marriages where there is only one principle. Here are are the steps to delete those marriages tags with only one principle. You will need John Cardinal’s TMG Utility for this.

1. First back-up your TMG database.

2. Create a new flag called “Missing Partner”

3. Create a “List of Events” type report and filter Marriage tag where Principle 2 ID equals zero.

4. Under secondary output, tell the report generator to set the Missing Partner flag to ‘Y’.

5. Run the report and note the number of records that were changed.

6. Close TMG and open TMG Utility.

7. In TMG Utility under Tags, select “Delete Tags by Type”

8. Select the Marriage tag and un-check the options.

9. At the bottom of the dialog click the “Set Flag Filter” button and set the option to include Missing Partner flag with value of Y.

10. Set the option to “Log Only” and click the Delete Tags button. Confirm the the number records that will be changed match the number of records seen in step #5.
